things that say a lot about people

~Things that say a lot about people~

The way in which they treat the waiter/waitress
How they feel about the weather
Whether they dog ear pages or highlight in books
Fingernails
Hands in general
Their preferred creative outlet
How much they dread/enjoy talking on the phone
Whether or not they drink coffee
If they ever forget to eat
How honest they are with themselves (and others)
If they correct your grammar
Whether or not they get nervous before haircuts

one. I generally try to be nice to waiters/waitresses. I try to imagine being in their position, having to serve and order for so many different people throughout their working hours, how they have to be happy all the time, put up with grumpy customers and so forth. So, I like to treat them nicely, they could have had a hard day for all I'd know. But I don't like pushy waiters who try to get you to buy this or that special, that's when I get annoyed.

two. I love sunny, warm weather. I will never grow tired of it, I could live in summer all year. Breezes are good though, for cooling down when I get hot. I also have a soft spot for grey, rainy days, as long as they happen only once in awhile. When it's continuous wet weather, I feel down and unhappy.

three. I don't think I've ever dog eared pages before, I've highlighted bits and words in books, but very rarely. I guess I'm not that type of person, I'm too afraid I'll ruin the book. Even my own Bible is very 'empty' in that way.

four. My nails are usually longish, thankfully I've gotten out of the dreadful habit of biting nails (well...95% of the time!). I never cut my nails and I think I've nail filed them twice in my life. I wear quite a bit of nail polish, pale colours, sometimes bright reds or pinks and manicure coatings, but at the moment I'm taking a break and my nails are bare.

five. I keep my hands clean. All the time. I hate being dirty, germy or sticky. Absolutely despise it. My hand are quite big, they have a massive expanse and my fingers are long and wide. I don't like my hands most of the time, I'd much prefer small, soft, white hands. I must admit though, they're excellent for playing complicated pieces on the piano.

six. Playing the piano, dancing, acting. I feel very creative when I'm doing any of those. Also, when I'm in a photographing mood, I can be creative with taking pictures. I also might feel creative when organising a party or social event. For myself, or for other people. Ideas from everywhere in my head seem to come out then. It depends. But mostly, the piano.

seven. Oooh, this isn't hard. Mostly, I don't like to talk on the phone to people. I much prefer to see the face of the person I'm speaking with. If it's just to say hi and pass the phone onto my parent or some one, that is fine, but if I've got to talk with them for longer than a minute, I don't like it much. But there is one exception. I can talk to one of my best friends for a long time. That isn't awkward to me.

eight. Well, I could lie and say I drink coffee every single day, but I better not. I'm rarely allowed to drink the amazing stuff, but when I do, nothing else can make me happier. I drink a lot of tea though. That's pretty good stuff.

nine. I never forget to eat. Ever. Food and I get along famously together, we are very good friends. And why should I forget something as important as eating, it keeps me alive you know!

ten. I am very honest to myself and to my family. I think to a lot of my friends though, I try to be different, not who I really am. I'm not hugely honest about myself around them. I guess that's something I need to work on. But with closer friends, I don't have to be different, or worried what they might think. Being who I am is enough for them, or the wouldn't have stuck with me for this long, so I'm plain old me twenty-four/seven! But I need to work on being more honest to every one.

eleven. Oh this is very easy. I correct every one's grammar. I can't stand wrong punctuation, misspellt words, anything like that. I can be a little slack sometimes myself or to other people, but in general I'm a grammar freak!

twelve. I'm not sure why people would get nervous before hair cuts. The only thing I'd be nervous about is whether they cut/style my hair wrong and I come out of the salon looking like a man or something. But in terms of sitting in a chair for forty-five minutes, wearing a big smock and making conversation with a lady you hardly know (or not at all), that doesn't bother me really. Another chance to get to know some one.

I hope this post has given you a little more about me, have a great week friends!

one hundred is a big number.

So I've had fun editing part three of my answers to your questions vlog and voila, here it is. I know the last one was a bit of a failure...I realised I hadn't cut out a part in the middle of it after I had uploaded it onto Youtube and the music on it was also too loud. I do apologise. I'm still getting the hang of editing short videos. Hopefully this one will be an improvement.
Enjoy :)

View part one and two here and here first if you haven't already (and can bare to watch me talking for that long!).

Oh and I've noticed something on my blog that's made me very excited. I have one hundred followers! That's a little special to me and I want to thank each and every one of you for being a part of that specialness. You are all so good to me.

!!!!!!!

No, I won't be having a big giveaway to celebrate...too exhausting for me. But I'm working on getting a new design and blog name and that's almost as nice.

Have a good remainder of your week, lovelies!

and a very happy birthday to you + v. ii

Mummy had a birthday, and a fortieth birthday at that. And we went to the Chocolate Cottage to celebrate together. It was a good day...I think Mum enjoyed it and that's what matters most.

Also, cutester turned four!

She was very proud of her new dress and birthday cake. (that i made...like it?!)

And of course, I edited and uploaded part two of my vlog for you girls.
It took ages, I edited most of it, then accidentally lost it all, had to restart, do it again, upload it onto youtube (which can i say was an hour and a half wait!) and finally put it onto this post.
You should love me.
Enjoy! (if you haven't watched part one, then you should probably watch that now...if you're brave enough that is, or have enough time!)

Again, please ignore my random weirdness and especially the long pauses where I'm trying to think of an answer and just staring into the distance. Try not to mind it, sometimes I can't believe how awkward I can be. :P

a little vlog for you all

So you may have been wondering long ago where my vlog is, but fear no longer. It is here! I apologise for the amount of time it's taken. I've been so busy I haven't had time to edit it and post the vlog until now.
For some reason, the whole entire vlog took thirty-minutes precisely to film. I have no idea how it turned out to be so long...I guess I just ramble on for ages, and you guys did ask me an awful lot of questions, so that is just the way it turned out.
But of course, you are NOT going to want to sit through half an hour of my talking at once, so I've decided to do it in four parts. This is the first one, so enjoy!

Excuse all random sentences, staring into the distance and other flaws about me...I'm not perfect.
But I hope you enjoyed it any way. Stay tuned for part two!

Love,
Holly xx

currently...

SEEING
The bluest of skies, dotted with birds flying to their nests, trees shedding the last of their leaves and even more trees budding beautiful spring flowers, my familiar bedroom in which to lie in after being away for the weekend, all neat and crisp, a slightly messy house, then a clean unpacked house at the end of the day and chapter thirty-nine of Emma open in front of me as I read after lunch.

TASTING
Porridge with honey and sweet stewed apple on top, steaming green tea mixed with the smallest amount of sugar, hot, leftover crumbly fish from the previous night, spicy cold pastrami with a salad mix, Jarlsberg cheese, roasted chicken and vegetables and thick gravy mixed with peas.

HEARING
The slow whispers of the trees outside, the steady rumbling of the cars just outside the house, the sound of electric beaters in the kitchen where the kids are cooking, Sophie sitting on my knee and telling me all about her daily activities, the quiet stillness of a big auditorium as youth has quiet time, the clinking of plates and splashing of water coming from the kitchen as the dishes are being washed up and the gentle talking and laughing of siblings and parents conversing after a long day.

SMELLING
The fertilized garden next door as I hang out washing (not exactly pleasant!), the sweet clean smell of freshly washed clothes, chocolate fudge baking in the oven, then being cut on the bench, all hot and chocolatey, then cold and rich. The tantalising smell of a roast dinner wafting through the big kitchen at church and increasing as it's placed in front of me on a big plate.

FEELING
The beautiful black and white piano keys beneath my fingers as I play Liz On Top of the World, the feeling of the shutter on the camera as I snap photos of Eloise in the back garden, warm sunshine on my back, then crisp, cold bursts of wind in the evening that hurry me inside, the pen in my hand as I write down thoughts in quiet time and the warm comforting hugs from Briahna that make everything seem right in the world.

CURRENTLY...
I'm cleaning my room, going through all the photos that I've taken today outside in the glorious sun, reminiscing memories from the co-op camp on the weekend, catching up with good people who love emails and skype messages from me, reading the Bible each morning, practising hard on the piano (My Father's Favourite is shaping up!), singing my choir songs for the upcoming concerts this Saturday and looking forward with anticipation to my birthday in two days. Thank you spring for coming, I'm just soaking you up!

things i'm thankful for today i // june fourth

This year, I've been writing in a 'thankful' diary. Each day, when I go to bed, I get out my diary and write five things I'm thankful for that day. I got the idea from a youth leader from America who came down and led the youth from the conference we attended in January. Tina said that she did it for a year, writing down five things every day and it made her so much more thankful and aware of all the good things she had. I was inspired by the idea and decided to try it this year, 2012. It's been absolutely great, a little challenging at times. But I always manage to get five things down for every day of this year.
And I've been thinking that every so often, it would be nice to post about things I am thankful for on that day, sharing with you photos and pictures if I choose to. So without further ado.

piano practice // buttery popcorn // books // watching little house on the prairie tv series // emails and emailing // working out my costume for an upcoming masquerade party // apple cake and yogurt (seriously, you should try it! amazing!) // precious photos // earning money // eighty-seven followers!!! // a friend like briahna // central heating for the cold weather // laughing moments with sisters //

What are some things you're thankful for today?

what's going on?

Hey Friends,

So you may have been wondering what's been going on lately with my blog design. Some of you may or may not have seen a new design on Roses and Bluebells rather recently and then the design changed almost back to normal.
I've been having a bit of trouble with blog designs. I was tired of my old one and Stephanie offered to make a new one. She put it on and that was the new design that some of you might of seen. The design was nice, but I didn't think it really suited me or was right for my blog, Roses and Bluebells. So I told Stephanie thanks for the hard work, but I don't think it's right for this blog, she was fine with that and I asked another designer KayleeBeth to design my blog for me, as I really liked her style and what she's done in the past. (plus it's free!)
So, for now I have my old design. KayleeBeth is currently working on a new one that hopefully I will love and everything's all fine.

Thanks for reading and understanding! You guys are amazing : )

the winners

Right, you all ready to find out who the lucky five winners are? I am still reallyreallyreally jealous about the prizes the winners will receive. They're pretty darn good. Thank you again to our amazing sponsors.

There was 47 comments, but only 31 entries out of that. Some people didn't quite understand how to enter, and some weren't valid, while others were just normal comments, so it was hard to try and find the entries out of that. Next time I have a giveaway, could you please only comment if you're entering, and read the ways to enter properly, sot that they will be valid.
I used random.org to find the winners, so it's completely fair.

Ok, so the first lovely is a gorgeous glass necklace donated by Sarah. And it goes too...

Guest posters...

We all love to guest post.
I always feel a thrill when I am asked to guest post on some one's blog. And sharing a bit about yourself on another (perhaps popular) blog apart from your own can be exciting!
And that's why I'm giving you the opportunity to be a

5-tips-to-choose-a-blog-to-submit-your-guest-post
via

(!!)

Yes, this blog is not that popular. I'm not the best blogger and I'm still learning more about photography, but you're my blogging friends. I know some of you would love to help me out : )
The reason for the guest posts you may be asking?
Well, we're at it again. On the 14th of September, (i believe!) I'm going away on another holiday with my family down to Canberra, the capital city of Australia, stopping off at places to do with astronomy (mainly for my brother's school). I'll be gone two and a half weeks. That's when you come in. I will need six guest posters over that period of time, who will be available to post on their specific date and with promptness. (in the past i've had people who didn't post on their day. we don't want any of that)
So if you'd like to help Roses and Bluebells out in this way then please email me. Let me know what dates you can post on, then I'll sort it out with everyone guest posting.

Thanks so much lovelies!

xoxo

p.s. what a coincidence? i've just guest posted over here at one of my favourite blogs, Follow God {every day}! please go check it out and leave a comment if you will : )

p.p.s. i have all my sponsors for my upcoming giveaway! now all i need is 50 + followers. please help me out so we can get this giveaway going, (that you won't want to miss believe me : P) hopefully before I go away. if not, then i'll do it when we get back.
awesome : D

p.p.p.s. one more thing. it's my birthday in 5 days! i've been counting it down since 30 or something! i'm having an awesome party on the 10th where you have to dress up in any period before the 20th century! there will be tons of photos to show you all. can't wait : )
and it's spring! i can't believe we're out of winter for a whole 'nother year! bliss...

There's No Place Like Home...

I'm home! Wow, it feels so good to be back in my own house, in my own city and in the blogging world once again! I enjoyed the trip immensely nevertheless, and have so much to share with you Followers, the photos being the most!

And let's give a round of applause to the wonderful and inspiring guest posters who did a brilliant job on Roses and Bluebells, Briahna, Makenzie, Briony, Destiny, Natalia and Crista Moriah! You Girls made my day (or should I say 'days'!) and I appreciate it so much!

I was also able to go on the internet occasionally while away, which is why some of you have probably seen a comment or two on your posts from me and I even commented on some of the guest posts on Roses and Bluebells!! Sounds a bit weird, doesn't it? Oh well, today's the day for being weird says I!

By the way, I made a chicken pie from my Grandmother's recipe collection and it was a big hit! Yay! Everyone absolutely loved it. (that is everyone except Eloise and Isaac but they're fussy so who cares?) I was so pleased with the results, I almost took a photo! Sorry, guys, you're all probably waiting for the photo, but everyone was hungry so I just had to get on with it : )
BUT here's the recipe so you can read it and try it out if you like!

Doesn't that sound good?? If you're a chicken lover like me!!

The photos from the holiday will be coming soon, I just have to upload them, edit them and sought out what's mine etc. So don't feel too disappointed that there's none from the travels in this post! I promise they're coming : )

Oh, and one more thing. I won another giveaway over at Diamonds and Pearls! I'm so excited. This is what I won.

via
Alright, Dears! That's all for now! Have a lovely week!

Holly xoxo

p.s. it's the first day of August! Only one more month to endure of winter!! My birthday is in just over a month too, so I'm excited! India and I have been designing invitations for my party I'm having : ) : )

making a blog button {guest post by Destiny}

This is me, so psyched to be guest posting on this blog! I was sitting here the other day wondering what I would post about... nothing came to mind! Until a very nice young lady email me, asking me how to make a blog button. BINGO! For this post I will give a nice and sort of easy tutorial on how to make a blog button! Here we go...

Note: This tutorial only works while using PHOTOBUCKET! If you do not have one, I encourage you to go and get one! Its free and it only takes seconds! It makes making a blog button easy.

{1} Go to photobucket and upload an image of your choice, Here is my photo:

Then click "save and continue on to my album"

{2} This should take you to your album (duh) scroll over your image and click on edit, like so:

{3} the editing page should pop up and from there you can do whatever you want with you image: (All I did with mine is add text)

{4} at the bottom of the editing page there should be three small boxes: (click on replace original)

{5} After clicking that, it should take you to a page with your finished piece:

Copy the code that's placed beside where it says HTML code (in the box at the bottom right side of the page)

{6} Now, go to your blogger dashboard and click design on the blog of your choice (if you have more than 1 blog)

{7} This should take you to the 'Add and arrange page elements' page. There, click on 'add a gadget'. A box like so should pop up:

{8} Scroll down that box until you see this:

then, click on that.

{9} A different (empty) box should appear, in that, you paste you copied code:

{10} Now it's time to fix the code! Please don't give up! It may seem a little hard, but it's really easy if you be careful!

Your code looks something like this right now: (but instead it's MY code)

replace the highlighted part of the code with the URL of your blog.

{11} Now copy and paste this code directly UNDER your current code:

YOUR BUTTONCODE HERE

Replace the red text with your current button code, like so: Right now your code should look something like this,

YOUR BUTTONCODE HERE

After you paste the top code and put it where the red text is, it should look something like this:

<a href="http://dezzysblogerificblog.blogspot.com/" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/k579/dezzylou13/destinybutton1.gif" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a><br>

{12} Now click save and your done!!! Congrats you have made your first blog button! Click on view blog and see how it did for you!

Photobucket

That's all! If it didn't work than just go back and check yourself! Because, I'm 100% sure this tutorial works.

I'm a Blogger (a Guest Post by Natalia)

I guess it's apparent that I'm a blogger. I type, I photograph, I think and share my thoughts on a URL.

I've always tried to be a good blogger. I've found some great tips from people, and I thought I'd share some of them with you, to be the best blogger possible, and as most of you girls (or boys) out there with blogs know, a good blog leads to some good followers!

The first thing.
One thing I've always tried to keep in mind when I blog is, "what's my goal?"
Some blogs are strictly full of photographs from other websites to inspire others.
Other blogs are full of recipes or book reviews to help others out.

Some blogs are to journal, to see the author's progress as they pursue a new hobby, or maybe just a place to post whatever pops into their head.

So when you start a blog, and even after that, keep that goal in mind.

A good design.
Ah, a good design. When visiting new blogs, one thing I'm always drawn to is clean backgrounds with solid colors, like Miss Holly here has. And while there are some cute blog buttons that you know would look great on your sidebar, try to think if it's really necessary, because before you know it, your sidebar is very cluttered!

Try to have your own blog button linking back to your blog, because some people that really love your blog will take the button, and it will help spread the word!

Also, if you have music on your blog, I advise you to switch it to only being played when others play it.

Consistency.
Try to get on a schedule with your posting, if possible. I know it's tough, but for me, I try to blog about three or four times a week. The posts can be any length, any sort of post, but if you post three days in a row, and then your followers don't hear -- er, read -- anything for another two weeks, it can be very awkward.

Everyone loves a good blog hop.
For me, I like to find blogs just by going to a blog I really like, looking through their followers, and clicking on links! It's lots of fun, and you meet lots of new people.

I also love linking up to things like Awkward and Awesome Thursday, Wednesday Wishes, and any fun photo challenges going on!

Comment when you get a chance! Don't be overly annoying, but if you leave a good and structured comment, chances are both the author of the blog and her/his readers will want to see who this person is!

Also, while following blogs can get you followers, don't follow a blog if you don't like it! It can lead to lots of awkwardness if they don't follow back, and then you're stuck reading your blog or having to un-follow.

Be a hostess.
Try having giveaways, link-ups and photo challenges! Make sure you come with a confident approach, and if not many people participate, it's not the end of the world.
Giveaways don't have to cost you anything if you contact some Etsy shops asking them to sponsor.
But don't be annoying, and make sure your giveaway will benefit the sponsor more then you, okay? :)

Write with proper grammar, please.
I really don't like reading blogs where all their posts are along the lines of, "so yeah, ill get a real post soon lol, im just sittin here trying to think of wat to say". Make sure you post things others will be comfortable reading.

Step out of your comfort zone.
Now and then, it's nice to switch up the things you usually post about, and to post about something else. This makes it so that the readers won't be bored!

Make your posts interesting.
Spice up your posts with different fonts, colors, and photos!

Your photos don't have to be professional or anything... even blurry photos help break up longer posts.

Make sure you post details that YOU find interesting. If even you get bored reading it, chances are followers aren't going to care.

Hope these help you to be a good blogger!
