thoughts + memories from austria

I haven't been much on this blog lately. So many things have been happening in my life. So much school work, especially German homework. Working so hard on my piano pieces. Choir rehearsals. Visiting friends. Earning money. Family day trips. Cooking and baking...
And yet, I haven't missed blogging, not really. I still enjoy it so incredibly much. But this year, I've come to see that I don't  have to blog all the time...that I'm not compelled to always have a bunch of beautifully edited photos, interesting things to say and thoughtful experiences and ideas to share. Before, I was posting as often as I could. When I didn't even want to or have anything worthwhile, I'd still try and post, just to say I'd done it. But that's not the way it should be for this blog. And I'm not going to fall into that blogging trap of always feeling like you have to post, must have something amazing to share, fantastic photos etc.
I feel so much better.

For the past couple weeks, I've been working very hard on a project for German class. I've been writing a travel diary completely in German of when I was away in Austria with Mum, with photos, information about the places and our traveling experiences.
This project has been mostly enjoyable. Reading through my diary brought back many memories Mum and I shared together. And looking up information on all the different places I stayed at, saw, dined at and walked through made me realise how amazing it actually was.
To go traveling to Vienna and Salzburg.
It was such a great privilege, one that I didn't fully appreciate at the time.

3-7 June 2010. Eleven year old, innocent and awkward me + my traveling crazy Mama.

But  sometimes, I wish I could go back to that trip and relive it again, as myself now. It would have been so much more rewarding. But with the prospect of a future trip to Austria and Germany in a couple years, I can let it go. Allow myself to be happy for that eleven year old who embarked on a trip to a place she had no idea about.

So, just a few, tumbled thoughts from a subject that has occupied my mind for quite sometime as I've put together this travelogue.
And a few photos from that trip of almost three years ago that bring me so much joy for your enjoyment :)

Much love xo

Look at us two traveling freaks!!
We had fun :)

I love what you said in the beginning about not feeling obliged to blog every time you do something. Gives me something to think about. Thanks for sharing this post Holly! Great work! :)

I never knew you went to Austria, it looks amazing!
I feel this way sometimes too, I tend to have phases where I'm "Blog! Blog! blog" and then don't want to post at all.

  6. Austria?! No. Way. That's amazing. It looks like you had a fantastic time. The second to last photo took my breath away.

And I appreciated the comment on blogging too. Often it seems like we bloggers live to blog, when really we should live and blog occasionally. Thanks for your great example! xx

    1. Thanks Johanna, but I did this tag a long time ago when I was fresh in the blogging world, and I don't do tags anymore, find them a little annoying!
But I appreciate you awarding me any way :)
